Notebook Cover
I had a rough start to my notebook, the only idea I had for a long time was a stupid corny joke. It was bad. I actually only had 2 ideas because I liked the cards idea a lot and decided to use it. Creating the design in Adobe Illustrator was really easy, since it was pretty much just 2 images, however because of all the small lines, I had to fiddle with the trace settings of the card back image so that it looked okay. I also replaced the "A" over the spaded so the middle of it would still be a part of the cover.
When I used the laser, everything went smoothly, I wish I would have thought about the color of the matboard before I started the laser. I would choose white if I did this again. The only other issue I have is the ash that got all over the matboard, which you can see in the picture of the finished product.
Engraved Water Bottle
Since I had missed a day of this rotation, I was a little behind and didn't even have a design choice until the class before I engraved the water bottle. Luckily I like a lot of things, so I picked my design really quickly, I chose to do the Night Court insignia from a series by one of my favorite authors Sarah J. Maas.

Nothing went wrong when I used the laser, other than that my design didn't center on the line in the UCP software, but that was fine, Ms. Proctor's demo did the same thing, and it went just fine. This turned out exactly how I wanted it to, I didn't realize how excited I was until the laser was engraving it.
What I Learned
I learned how to warp text, I did it for the first time in Illustrator for my water bottle, but it was more difficult than I expected. There were so many adjustments, much more than I had ever dealt with before. I also learned that the type of design differs between different mediums. Once you have an idea in mind, it is fairly easy to bring it to life on Illustrator, and then on the material.
